i created a new Module Def and it appeared in the menu, now i created a new DocType and set the module to newly created one, and added this DocType as form item in the Module Def’s items. however i am not getting the submenu when i click on the newly created module. but if i add existing doctypes like leads or customers it appears in submenu. any pointers regarding this?

You need to add permissions on the DocType to make it appear. In the new version that I am working on currently, I am changing this logic so that the items appear automatically based on permission and whether the module is enabled. And remove the redundant Module Def Items
On another note, really happy to know you are attempting to build a new module.
