Auto populate the TO: and FROM: for email in not working

I know i asked this before, but lost it do to one of my famous multi question posts really have to stop doing that. Please forgive me for reposting this issue, but I think with a proper Subject it will be easier for anyone else with a similar problem to find.

Anyways here is the scenario.

I create a customer lets call him Computer King then i add an address with an Email Id lets say ?@?.com.

Next i create a Sales Invoice for this customer.

Then i want to email this Invoice to the customer so i click the email button it brings up the email form but the TO: portion is empty and the FROM: is set to na.

This happens with all emailable items ie Qoutations, Sales Orders, etc.

I do not think this is the intended behaviour so where is the ERPNext not pulling the TO: FROM: emails have i forgotten to add my email and the customers email somewhere?

Also when i Submit the Invoice or Qoutation or etc i get an error guessing this is somehow related

Invalid/Missing Email Address. undefined not sent.

Hi Ryan,

Let me clarify the difference between Email on the right side bar and auto email notifications.

* AUTO EMAIL NOTIFICATIONS
Auto email notifications get sent when certain forms are submitted.

It needs the following things for functioning:
1. In Setup –> Auto Email Notifications, auto sending should be enabled for the concerned form.
2. In the concerned form, there should be a Contact field.
3. The Contact field should be contain a valid contact.
4. That contact should have a valid email specified in the contact form.
5. The outgoing email settings in Setup –> Email Settings should be valid.

If all these things are corect, then on submit of your form, an auto email will get sent without any issue.

I think you should verify points 3 and 4 for your forms.
If a contact is not specified, you should ideally add contacts for a customer/supplier in their respective forms.

* EMAIL - on the right side bar
This can be used to send the print of the form to any email address. It is a general feature and it does not contain any automation.

I hope this clears the issue for you. Feel free to put in more queries if you do not find this explanation clear enough.

Thanks,
Anand.

But Autopopulate TO would still be a wish , for those who Opt out of auto-email-notifications ,

Hi Ryan and Mahesh,

Some day happens to be today. We are releasing this right now. Please
check after about 15 mins.

The To Email address will get auto populated if the form has a Contact
Email. The contact email gets fetched automatically on Contact
selection, if it is specified in the contact.

Thanks,
Anand.

Sorry for my late reply on this thread got busy with a few other thing mostly ERPNext related  anyways finally got a chance to check the new auto populate TO: address and it works wonderfully thank you. However my from address is still populated with na where is ERPNext looking to fill the FROM: field call me lazy but i do not like entering the FROM: field each time either.

Shouldn't the FROM: field come from the email provided in setup >> companies or perhaps even setup >> email settings as i have both filled out where is this na coming from?

Also i seem to have figured out what i was doing wrong with email notifications as pointed out by Mahesh it was step 3 and 4 I did not have a contact for the customer i was tiring to send the email too. Please don't take this the wrong way as i am sure there are reason beyond my understanding, but it does seem a bit counter intuitive to have to enter a company email as well as a contact email.

It is a great option to have multiple contacts for each company, but usually i only need a company email, and wish ERPNext would/could pull the email for auto email notification from the Email Id provided in the company form. Seems for me this would streamline things a bit more.

PS I absolutely love the fact that the email get sent when i click the submit button very slick.

PPS This thread might be bordering on the technical side now, please feel free to move this thread to the developers forum.

Ryan,

The na comes from the email id in your profile (which is set as na for Administrator). You can edit it via (Document -> Search -> Profile -> Administrator)

(this is a good example of a feature discussion. Anything that involves code moves to the other forum :)

best,
Rushabh
