I created a workflow for leave applications but it remains open even after approval. How to solve it?

Did you set the Docstatus as 1 on the Approved state?
The Document gets Submitted only when you set the Docstatus to 1

What state are you facing the problem? By remains open you mean it is not getting submitted?
on every state other than cancelled
