What is the best time to transfer items from work-in-progress warehouse tp finished goods warehouse

We are in signboard manufacturing. After making the sign, it is considered a finished good. But the process is incomplete untill the sign is installed at the clients premises. Sign installation requires more material and labour. It is the practice that we raise a Delivery Note to dispatch a sign from our stores for which the customer sign and return a copy after installation.
1. What would be the best time to transfer goods from work-in-progress warehouse to finished goods warehouse.
2. Should we maintain another warehouse , say installation warehouse (because it is usefull to know what signs are waiting for installation)

Hi JD,

From my understanding, Installation Warehouse seems to be a good name instead of Finished Goods warehouse, which is more semantically correct in your case.

When making Delivery Note, the Sign Board will be removed from Installation Warehouse and marked as delivered.

However, you should make a Sales BOM Item, say Sign Board Package, that will be a package containing Sign Board and other items required for installing Sign Board, so that the inventory of these get tracked, but that of Sales BOM Item will not be tracked.

Using Sign Board Package in Sales Order, Delivery Note and Invoice will affect the inventories of Sign Board + relevant other material.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,
Anand Doshi.
