What does set only once mean? What difference does it make if checked?

It allows you write the data only once. If checked you won’t be able to update the data afterwards.
Do they mean that one can have Frappe prevent users from editing the input into a field by checking this box? No, because there is a field for allowing users only to sense the input.
Who is going to provide the instructions necessary for deciding on when to use this feature?
