Web Shop

Dear all,

Few weeks back we released the updated website module. A lot of you have made great websites. Listing some of the good ones again:

http://xavierltd.xbs360.com/
http://ac.erpnext.com/120-volt.html
http://laxsun.erpnext.com/

The next step is obviously the web-shop.

We have already started building a part of the webshop but we are not feeling very motivated to go ahead because none of the sites have gone "live" i.e. have put in the last bit of finishing effort required to make this a complete site.

The website module in erpnext is now fully tested (we have been running erpnext.com on it for a year) and we urge people to go "live". From whatever feedback we have got, the sites look clean and impressive too. If you still have any nagging doubts, please let us know. Also the sites are fully search engine friendly and responsive to mobile and tablet browsers.

So before we continue further development, we would like at least 5 sites (other than erpnext.com) to go live i.e. make this your primary website. Then that will motivate us for further development on the webshop.

best,
Rushabh

Dimeji,

Thanks for your response and your site has come out quite well.

Why don't you make this your primary website - what is stopping you?

I know you have been waiting but we are working on very tight resources. If not money, you can motivate us by making this our primary site.

Dear Rushabh,

I trust you're doing great. First of all, I'd like to yet again express appreciation to you and your team for an excellent product.

Regarding websites, you need to appreciate the fact that there are lots of great website-publishing tools out there that have been around longer than ERPNext and which most webmasters are familiar and comfortable with. In fact, I dare say that most people already had a website up and running before they started using ERPNext for handling back-end administrative and financial operations.

The webshop however is an extremely compelling reason for any organisation that sells products and/or services online (and this is practically everyone and their mother) to move their primary website to ERPNext.

Imagine being able to sell your products online and have that immediately and automatically updated in your Accounts and Inventory! Order Placement becomes more appealing for the customer while Order Processing and Management becomes a breeze for the organisation! This is why we've been eagerly awaiting this for the last 2 years!

Oh and by the way, http://xavierltd.xbs360.com and http://sapphire.xbs360.com are actually primary websites (for all intents and purposes). That's why we took the time to develop them to that level!

Wale,

Thanks again for your encouragement and trying out the feature. The benefit of using ERPNext over other tools is already that you get you do not have to duplicate the effort of publishing your item catalog.

Your sites are already pretty good - why not give them their own domain?

I am hoping to push a few more to start doing so it gives us more momentum, feedback. Btw that does not mean we are going to delay the module by a fair bit. I am also talking with a few other customers to make their website - If all goes well we should be up in a couple of months.

Dimeji,

Please also understand we are working on very limited resources and not only actively adding features but also maintaining, supporting, debugging, helping people on the forum, all as a part of our small team and we have never asked for money for upgrades or feature requests.

I would love to get the webshop out there as soon as possible, but we also need to finish the new production documentation, create an all new developer documentation, ensure releases are smooth, upgrade old reports etc.

I appreciate your enthusiasm in making the webshop module as quickly as possible. I just hope there are other users who are as enthusiastic. If they are, then now is the time to get themselves heard.

best,
Rushabh

Hi Rushabh,

I think I would be also one of those who would be looking to get the webshop. I know, that I am guilty of the charge that I have not worked on my website but as you are aware my organization’s more pressing need is a new item coding system.

I am almost through with that and I am sure after this the next thing on my mind is the website to be up and running with erpnext and hence you can very well be assured that the 5 websites that you were looking for are almost there.

I fully agree with Olawale that people like me would take other matters as more pressing since we already have a website, no matter how pathetic the existing website is and no matter how much more duplicate work is to be done on existing website.I think the web shop would indeed increase the interest for more people since then the website would truly become a tool to reach out to customers rather than just a piece of information.

This is why we’ve been eagerly awaiting this for the last 2 years!

Oh and by the way, http://xavierltd.xbs360.com and http://sapphire.xbs360.com are actually primary websites (for all intents and purposes). That’s why we took the time to develop them to that level!

Subject: [erpnext-user-forum] Web Shop

Dear all,

Few weeks back we released the updated website module. A lot of you have made great websites. Listing some of the good ones again:

Hi Rushabh,

One of the main reasons to selct Erpnext 14 month ago was the promise
that a website would be integrated in a few month. I have been seeing
lots of improvements, and have been patient on the web-shop.

Indeed, I agree with one of the reactions that several of us have
already an webite, and there is an abundance of free and easy “site
builders” with a wide choice of standard templates and extentions such
as a webshop.
So the only reason to use Erpnext to build a website is the full
integration between a POS, adminstration, and webshop, and for the
time being, not the easy one can build a website.

Also if you want people to use the Erpnext webshop, somewhat more
documentation would help, it is now still a develop by trial exercise.

You would like that users of Erpnext use xxxx.erpnext.com as their
primary site. I do not even know how to do that. We own the domain
www.dogsloveit.nl and guess that I have to do a redirect to
dogsloveit.erpnext.com, or something like that.

BUT: Our website attracts visitors and using relevant search terms has
a high ranking in Google. Also we have a functional and operational
webshop running on this domain. I am not convinced that our website
will by found by Google. We had 19 vistors on dogsloveit.erpnext.com
over the last month, and 90% are my own visits. Also if I google
Laxsun or Avana Sarasota is do find their Erpnext sites.

So, logically, I am somewhat hesitant to move and would prefer a
gradual move, by linking our existing site to erpnext. However, at
this moment there is no reason to do so, since the website is not
functional. Checken & Egg.

Anyway, I do hope that you, and your team, will find enough energy and
resources to implement the webshop, and as an other user noted, that
will motivate people.

This is really disappointing to say the least. Hope deferred makes the heart sick.

I think I will just stop expecting the module and move on to other alternatives.

Dear Rushabh,

I trust you’re doing great. First of all, I’d like to yet again express appreciation to you and your team for an excellent product.

This is why we’ve been eagerly awaiting this for the last 2 years!

Oh and by the way,http://xavierltd.xbs360.comandhttp://sapphire.xbs360.comare actually primary websites (for all intents and purposes). That’s why we took the time to develop them to that level!

Dimeji,

Thanks for your response and your site has come out quite well.

Why don’t you make this your primary website - what is stopping you?

I know you have been waiting but we are working on very tight resources. If not money, you can motivate us by making this our primary site.

Dear all,

Few weeks back we released the updated website module. A lot of you have made great websites. Listing some of the good ones again:

http://xavierltd.xbs360.com/
Frappe Cloud
http://laxsun.erpnext.com/

The next step is obviously the web-shop.

We have already started building a part of the webshop but we are not feeling very motivated to go ahead because none of the sites have gone “live” i.e. have put in the last bit of finishing effort required to make this a complete site.

The website module in erpnext is now fully tested (we have been running erpnext.com on it for a year) and we urge people to go “live”.

Then that will motivate us for further development on the webshop.

best,
Rushabh

Robert,

Thanks for the feedback - yes its chicken and egg. Once you redirect your new domain to the website it may take some time for search engines to reindex. But that is a decision you have to take.

It takes some effort to get your website functional - i.e. update your item images and do the classification but after that its much easier to maintain. Seeing the current websites of more than 90% of our users, it seems like an obvious choice for me, maybe I am wrong.

Either ways I am not selling and I have not said that we are abandoning web shop - I am surprised to see the reaction here as if we are committing some kind of harakiri. Anand has already started work on the webshop.

Stay tuned for updates.

best,
Rushabh

Hi Rushabh,

One of the main reasons to selct Erpnext 14 month ago was the promise
that a website would be integrated in a few month. I have been seeing
lots of improvements, and have been patient on the web-shop.

Indeed, I agree with one of the reactions that several of us have
already an webite, and there is an abundance of free and easy "site
builders" with a wide choice of standard templates and extentions such
as a webshop.
