Upcoming changes in Communication Log

Hello everyone,

We are working on revamping the communication log system.

Right now, it is a table in Lead, Opportunity, Quotation and in some
of your cases, Customer (customization).

We are going to make Communication as a form.
Just like you can add address in a customer, you will be able to see
and add communications in the respective documents.

Please look at screen-shot-1 and screen-shot-2.
You would be also able to filter the communication listing.

Please look at screen-shot-3.
The Communication form will include an expanded content field, which
will allow you to add a lot of detail regarding the communication.

Communication will be made available as a part of the Support module.
You will be able to create Communication entries just like any other
transaction, and not just by going to the Lead or such other form.

Also, communications associated to Lead, Customer, Supplier,
Opportunity and Quotation will be listed in their respective forms, as
in screen-shot-1

By making communication as a separate form, you will be able to track
all kinds of communications by take out reports.

You are the man!!!

The screen shots look good, but one thing comes to my mind when I see the screen shot 3, that is, creating a communication should have the below mentioned things:
  • Date of the Communication (not the date of creation of the communication)
  • Type of Communication (like Phone Call, Email, Visit etc which is there in the system currently)
  • Next action & Next Action Date (This should ideally create a task or reminder for the user to remind that he needs to do something)
  • Communicated by (This field should be restricted to say like a manager who can only enter data on behalf of his subordinates and for others it would be filled with their user id.)
I cannot think of anything more, I think this would make a good start for a CRM to available in ERPNEXT.

But even if these are not there, I think this would be a great addition and a long awaited one as well. Way to go guys!!!

You can create Communication record directly from Support module. Also you will find the option to maintain Communication history in the Lead, Opportunity, Quotation, Customer, Supplier and Contact form.

i find it in Lead, and this entity reminded me in calendar, but this calender object not linked to lead. (show lead number), but not linked. Maybe this idea will be useful.
