E.g. upon saving some changes there is a small notification message on the bottom right. I appreciate the message, but I would like to turn off the sound. Does anyone know where?

Go to User list, find your ID, open it; inside ‘MORE INFORMATION’ section you will find it ‘Mute Sounds’. Tick it, save the doctype and reload.
