I was wondering if anybody has every tried to use erpnext for agriculture
and how to go about it?

It is just a special kind of "manufacturing".

Expect

workstation are "farm field" (with many special fields such pH of soils,

type of soils, etc.)

Then you have all your inputs (seeds, agrochemicals, etc.) spread over the

duration of the crop.

You have an output 3 to 12 months later depending of your crop.

We should be able to track:

The total amount & costs of all inputs + labor for a certain crop

The total yield (and income) for that certain crop.

What would be the cost to develop a module which can track these things?

I'm not a developer but I would be willing to finance part of such a

project. The agricultural ERP i've checked, web-based or not, are

ridiculously expensive.

Best,

François

    Hello Francois,
Sounds interesting. Its a nice idea to do some sort of precise analysis on
feasibility of deploying ERPNext for Agriculture sector.

The reason I'm excited about this is- India is the second largest country
in farm output worldwide. And almost 50% of Indian workforce are working
for agriculture sector. And adding a module/features for agriculture sector
in ERPNext would be a great idea. Now, coming back to ERPNext, our core
philosophy is to address the relatively larger and common gap in society by
developing and promoting open source software. And I'm sure, agriculture
sector deserves the best.

Definitely, Rushabh would be interested in considering your features
request. Thank you so much once again Francois for coming up with such an
innovative thought.

    ‎Hi Rushabh,
I agree about using the OR approach as long as there is additional scripting to handle the scenario I described earlier. If what you're saying is that you want to return the permission manager to functioning how it was in version 3 then that's just great!

The key thing to keep in mind is that you need a way to filter docs within a list for 'roles' probably based on ‎link fields and this needs to override normal user restrictions (which is where the OR comes in I guess)

By the way, having a hierarchical structure with workflows ‎configured around it would be absolutely awesome ;)

Kind regards,

Olawale ‎

‎Hi Rushabh,

Trust you're doing great. Not so sure that's a good idea. Check out the following scenario:

-An employee is restricted to seeing only his employee form because he has his Employee ID defined in his user properties

-Same employee also has Department defined in his user properties so that the department field is automatically populated and marked when he raises a document (as in Mayur's example)

-If restrictions are set to OR then it means that this employee (and every other employee who has Department defined in their user properties) will be able to view employee forms for everyone in his department!

Best solution is still ability to ignore user permissions on fields ‎for specific roles (IMO)

Cheers!

It would be really great if we could select by roles of which the system

to those 2 people / users. Perhaps something that could be considered?

Thanks Rusabh, really appreciate your help.

It could be better if it automatically resets the ID in case of draft PO.

Manually resetting may not be effective as there would be no of users
creating POs and hence manually setting the series every time would not be
possible.

Hi Sunil,

That's great to hear! We are glad that they are happy.

This video has inspired us a lot: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VpZmIiIXuZ0, so much so that we are frequently asking ourselves, "What do we want people to feel" :)

Thanks,

Anand.

Hi everyone,

A few updates for this week:

Timeline and Fold

Inspired by GitHub's timeline view, we have overhauled the comments section and raised its importance. Here's a quick preview:

Image of Timeline and Fold

As you can see from the image, the form's timeline shows Created, Submitted, Assignments, Attachments and User Comments. To improve its visibility, forms have a new element called Fold, that collapses the 2nd half of the form, hiding less important details and making the forms much shorter.

Once the full form is made visible by clicking View Details, the system remembers this act and shows the full form for subsequent opening of similar forms.

I think this feature is a win for both existing and new users. What do you think?

Other news

Landed Cost Voucher has been released. We have tried to ensure that it does not have any obvious bugs, though there will always be fringe cases.

Transaction summary for Email Digest now uses transaction's date instead of creation date. This ensure that amended transactions don't corrupt the day's data. (Thanks to Laurence Cua for reporting this problem.)

If you usually make a lot of back-dated transactions, you should use Weekly Digest to get the summary for the week, which better fits your use case.

As usual, we would appreciate your feedback.

Best,

Anand Doshi.

I was wondering if anybody has every tried to use erpnext for agriculture
and how to go about it?

It is just a special kind of “manufacturing”.

Expect

workstation are “farm field” (with many special fields such pH of soils,

type of soils, etc.)

I’m not a developer but I would be willing to finance part of such a

project. The agricultural ERP i’ve checked, web-based or not, are

ridiculously expensive.

Best,

François

    Hello Francois,
Sounds interesting. Its a nice idea to do some sort of precise analysis on

feasibility of deploying ERPNext for Agriculture sector.

The reason I’m excited about this is- India is the second largest country

in farm output worldwide. And almost 50% of Indian workforce are working

for agriculture sector. And adding a module/features for agriculture sector

in ERPNext would be a great idea. Now, coming back to ERPNext, our core

philosophy is to address the relatively larger and common gap in society by

developing and promoting open source software. And I’m sure, agriculture

sector deserves the best.

Definitely, Rushabh would be interested in considering your features

request. Thank you so much once again Francois for coming up with such an

innovative thought.

    ‎Hi Rushabh,
I agree about using the OR approach as long as there is additional scripting to handle the scenario I described earlier. If what you’re saying is that you want to return the permission manager to functioning how it was in version 3 then that’s just great!

The key thing to keep in mind is that you need a way to filter docs within a list for ‘roles’ probably based on ‎link fields and this needs to override normal user restrictions (which is where the OR comes in I guess)

By the way, having a hierarchical structure with workflows ‎configured around it would be absolutely awesome

Kind regards,

Olawale ‎

Trust you’re doing great. Not so sure that’s a good idea. Check out the following scenario:

-An employee is restricted to seeing only his employee form because he has his Employee ID defined in his user properties

-Same employee also has Department defined in his user properties so that the department field is automatically populated and marked when he raises a document (as in Mayur’s example)

-If restrictions are set to OR then it means that this employee (and every other employee who has Department defined in their user properties) will be able to view employee forms for everyone in his department!

Best solution is still ability to ignore user permissions on fields ‎for specific roles (IMO)

Cheers!

I see, is it possible to select users from the user listing within the
system? Or must it be a manual email address entry?

It would be really great if we could select by roles of which the system

would then send it to all users whom have been assigned that role. E.g. a

Purchase Order needs approval and it has to be approved by the Purchase

Manager and 2 people carry this role. The system would then send an alert

to those 2 people / users. Perhaps something that could be considered?

Thanks Rusabh, really appreciate your help.

I second the suggestion by Javier, this is a much useful feature, where in
for pending approvals.

    Hi
It could be better if it automatically resets the ID in case of draft PO.

Manually resetting may not be effective as there would be no of users

creating POs and hence manually setting the series every time would not be

possible.

Thanks

Rasika

Hi Sunil,

That’s great to hear! We are glad that they are happy.

This video has inspired us a lot: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VpZmIiIXuZ0, so much so that we are frequently asking ourselves, “What do we want people to feel”

Thanks,

Anand.

Hi everyone,

A few updates for this week:

Timeline and Fold

Inspired by GitHub’s timeline view, we have overhauled the comments section and raised its importance. Here’s a quick preview:

Image of Timeline and Fold

As you can see from the image, the form’s timeline shows Created, Submitted, Assignments, Attachments and User Comments.

Transaction summary for Email Digest now uses transaction’s date instead of creation date. This ensure that amended transactions don’t corrupt the day’s data. (Thanks to Laurence Cua for reporting this problem.)

If you usually make a lot of back-dated transactions, you should use Weekly Digest to get the summary for the week, which better fits your use case.

As usual, we would appreciate your feedback.

Best,

Anand Doshi.
