Quotation Issue

I am having the following problem, when i mark a quotation as won, using the make sales order button, the quotation status is changed to confirmed.
But recently i had to make an amend to a sales order that was converted and when i cancelled the order, the quotation status went back to submitted, even after the amended sales order was submited and completed.
How do i mark a quotation as confirmed without making a new sales order?
