We (@ web notes) all use mac osx to develop erpnext, so this is very much possible to install erpnext on osx. For instruction please refer README.md

If there are specific error, please share error message using pastebin.com/github gist.

There are no separate instructions for mac osx but generally it is almost the same as Linux. Installer install_erpnext.py will work for OSX as well.

Well I don’t think so, the install_erpnext.py has instructions to stop the script if it isn’t a linux based system. We tried to pass that without any success.

Hi Tom,

We will need to add mac os compatible installation instructions in install_erpnext.py

You will need home-brew installed. If you are up for it, you can install pre-requisites mentioned here https://github.com/webnotes/erpnext/wiki/How-to-Install-ERPNext#old-instructions, and then do a manual installation. We can guide you about it. Else wait for us to update the installer and in the mean time, use a trial version / virtual image to try it out.

Thanks,
Anand.

Hi Anand,

We installed (already a couple of times) Epnext on Ubuntu so a trail version on Linux is not the problem but we need also one on OSX. When do you expect a update for the installer script ?

Thanks again.

Tom,

Installation is quite simple actually - you need to install the pre-requisites, create the database and update your apache.conf.

Please create an issue for this on GitHub so that you will be notified when we come to it.

best,
Rushabh

Tom,

Instead of downloading, you can clone directly from github - this will help you pull updates also. You need to:

Go to the folder where you want to install ERPnext.

1. clone erpnext into "app" folder
2. clone wnframework into "lib" folder
3. create conf.py file from this template (https://github.com/webnotes/wnframework/blob/master/conf/conf.py) where you set your mysql user and db name
4. run "lib/wnf.py --install_fresh"
5. run "lib/wnf.py -b" (to build)
5. Give apache write access on all files in the folder.

We need to create a help page for this too!

best,
Rushabh

Hi,

I have still some problem with installing on OSX.

I followed these steps (this time)

1.  - with Github installed:
     1. wnframework.git in usr//local/lib
     2. erpnext.git in my htdocs
2. installed Homebrew to install dependencies (I think and hope i have them all )
3. Created a database in Mysql
4. create a V-host
<VirtualHost *:80>
    ServerName my.com
    ServerAlias www.my.com
    DocumentRoot “/my path to/erpnext/public”
    ErrorLog “logs/erp_error.log”
    CustomLog “logs/erp_access.log” combined
</VirtualHost>

 5. restart Apache

6. Edit /usr/local/lib/wnframework/conf/conf.py file  to set my mysql user and db name

7. Run /usr/local/lib/wnframework/wnf.py install_fresh
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File “/usr/local/lib/wnframework/wnf.py”, line 490, in <module>
    run()
  File “/usr/local/lib/wnframework/wnf.py”, line 315, in run
    import conf
ImportError: No module named conf

I guess there is something I missed here still.

O.k. this was not clear to me..

You will have to add cgi-handlers and rewrite conditions as explained in the install doc.

Placed this in the .htaccess in the ERPnext folder (easier to handle)

Going to attempt later today again.

Thanks,
