Issues in keep tracking of A class material in ERPNext

We are using earlier version and wants to switch in updated one. As we notice no provision for A class material consumption track in System because of we buying on Kg and material also came in same UOM but packing size is different and store person unable to track record of consumption of such material. Second thing we are facing issues in Serial wise track of material for our manufacturing unit.
If anyone facing same issues or have any solution please share with us so we can upgrade.

Hi,

Can you please provide more information? Some more details.

If you are saying that you have an Item, let’s call it ItemX and that comes in 1Kg, 5 Kg, 10Kg and 25Kg packs, you need to give a little bit of thought about how you want to structure your item master. You have two options:

Option 1: Stock UOM is in Nos. You have to have separate Item Codes, say ItemX-1Kg, ItemX-5Kg, ItemX-10Kg, ItemX-25Kg, etc. Now if you want to know how many Kgs of ItemX you have to build a custom report to get that information. Or export to Excel and calculate there.

Option 2: Stock UOM is in Kg. You have to cautious, as a user can do a transaction that is not supported - like 0.5 Kg. Here users have t exercise caution to ensure that they make entries for only viable quantities (1Kg, 5Kg, 10Kg, 25Kg, etc.)

But like I said, if you want people to respond to your queries you have to make it easy for them to react by being specific about the question and the help you need from them.

Hope this helps.

Thanks

Jay

Good Morning,

Thanks for your email, we are Electronic Manufacturer and frequently procure Metals like copper, aluminium on Strip (long scale) form it will come in odd quantities like one strip of 19.5Kg Second 22.7 like this. Our main issue is we can’t track the material consumption report because the store directly issues complete material strips to the shop floor and they use them as per their requirement.

We need to control our A class item and so for that we wants solution in ERP next.
Thanks and regards,

Hi,

Have you considered dropping the raw materials drawn by the shopfloor against multiple work orders to the Work in Progress warehouse. From there, you can use a BOM to record consumption of these metals and other raw materials, as items are made on your production floor. So, when the floor comes back to you for more of the same item (say Copper or Aluminum, you can run a report, see if the consumption adds up against the previous issue of that item to the shopfloor. If it adds up, you issue more. If it doesn’t, you research why and depending upon the root cause, you could decide to change the BOM to reflect the reality on the shopfloor.

Hope this helps.

Thanks

Jay
