Error msg: "Selected Item cannot have Variants"

I set up item attribute lists properly. After creating a new item, when I attempt to generate combinations It throws error “Selected Item cannot have Variants”

I updated bench, tried adding variants every which way and am still getting the error.

Any Remedies?

Did you check “has variants” in the main item? can you replicate this on demo.erpnext.com ?

I got it to work. I’m a new user. The working order of operations for me:

  1. Create new item
  2. Save (leaving “has variants” unchecked)
  3. Edit item (Check “has variants”)
  4. Save
  5. Edit item, manage variants, add attributes, generate variants
  6. Save
