DOCTYPE IMAGE / LIST VIEW IMAGE -- what is the correct input size to prevent resizing?

The emty box for doctype entry view seems to be 300x300, but after uploading an image that is 300x300

After uploading SQUARE 300x300 image…

How to get it to display the image properly without resizing?
