I am setting up the Chart of Accounts. In the Assets, I tried to change the "Plant and Machine" ledger account in to a group account. Then a notifiction appeared to say that it can not be done as the account is connected to a Master Account.
1. What is this "Master"?
2. I wanted to change the above account to a Group Account, so that I could have ledger accounts for each major machine under the group account. Is this a wrong move?
3. Is this 30 day trial vesion will be converted to a regular version without loosing the changes I made and data I input, when the payment is made?

Customer or Supplier - you can edit the account and remove its type. This account should ideally not be a Master account.
2. I wanted to change the above account to a Group Account, so that I could have ledger accounts for each major machine under the group account. Is this a wrong move?
No - you can do that. No issuee
3. Is this 30 day trial vesion will be converted to a regular version without loosing the changes I made and data I input, when the payment is made?
You have both the choices, you can choose to retain your data or if its all dummy we can clean it up too.
