Can I restore from .sql.gz file instead of .sql file?

I did a test restore recently and although got this to work ok, I was surprised at how much space I needed to expand the sql from the compressed sql file. I had to increase my VM three times to get enough disk space to enabled it to complete.

My original whole os install with compressed backups working ERPNext was 6.5GB. But I had to increase the space available to more than 100GB to allow me to uncompress, and restore the sql file.

I wonder if its possible to restore with bench or mysqladmin from a compressed sql backup created by ERPNext ton save the uncompressing time and space issue?

thanks … can we do this with bench too, as well as mysql ?

no…
