How to apply a negative customer balance to an invoice

Let’s say I made a sales return with a credit note.

Now the customer account is in negative. I own him money.

He places a new order. How should I apply this negative amount to the invoice?

A bit of a convoluted process but go to Accounts>Match Payment with Invoice. Fill out the top portion and push “Get Entries” button. You’ll see the entry, click the invoice to apply those funds to and it will update accordingly and show the outstanding amount accordingly as well.
